Banned in AU?
AU facility members have been throwing away copies of AWOL — since we’re an independent magazine and not recognized by the school officially they consider us “illegitimate,” and trash, apparently.
So we’ll be distributing in a more personal way: handing out around campus.
If you want to help with distro or if you or any of your friends want to get your hands on some copies, let us know. <awolau@gmail.com>
And, again, if you want to get involved, please shoot us an e-mail.
MARCH UPDATE
We bought a domain: www.awoldc.org. It will be launched mid-March.
First issue comes out this Friday.
Look for it.
————————————-
We’re still looking for writers, photographers, copy editors, and people with any communication and organizational skills.
E-mail awolau@gmail.com to be added to our e-mail list, pitch a story, or get involved immediately.
STATUS
American Way of Life Magazine (AWOL) is currently waiting for the Media Board’s decision. If AWOL is approved, the first issue will be out by the end of February. Additionally, an official Web site will be launched.
Our first issue is completely finished. We will (with the Media Board’s compliance) distribute copies in a few weeks.
In our first issue we examined the theme of “trapped”. Whether politically, socially, or economically, many individuals and groups are trapped in structures and institutions that seem inescapable. This issue looks at how people and groups can escape from the shackles of social construction and political power.
Our second issue’s theme is “sold”. We’ll be taking a look at mass-marketing, commercialism, piracy, gentrification, among many other encompassing topics. There are many stories still available for this issue. E-mail us for more information or pitch us an idea of your own!
E-mail: awolau@american.edu
UPDATE: The Media Board rejected AWOL. We’re going to function as a independent media source, funded by Campus Progress.
